For more than four decades, the Purina Animal Hall of Fame™ has honoured an elite group of pets and service dogs for their extraordinary acts of heroism and bravery, which have saved human lives. From sensing deadly medical conditions to saving their owners from wild animal attacks, more than 150 inductees have been recognized including 132 dogs, 26 cats - and one horse!
Since 1992, the program expanded to specifically recognize the key role of service dogs in protecting the public and providing independence, comfort and hope to so many Canadians. To date, 18 service dogs have been honoured for their acts of extreme bravery and courage.
New pet heroes are inducted annually into the Purina Animal Hall of Fame™ at a private ceremony in the spring.
The bond we share with pets can be lifesaving and inspiring. Come and learn about all the pet and service dog Inductees at PawsWay Pet Discovery Centre located at Harbourfront Centre in Toronto, and the permanent home of the Purina Animal Hall of Fame™. Open year-round, general admission is free.

The four 2013 Purina Animal Hall of Fame™ Inductees join 155 heroic animals.
Here are their stories.
Just over two years ago, Chris Larocque gave his wife a spunky, rambunctious Bernese Mountain Dog puppy to thank her for nursing him back to health following a serious automobile accident. At the time, Chris thought he was simply giving Andrea the puppy she'd always wanted. Little did he know that this warm-hearted gesture would ultimately save his life.
As an avid animal lover, Angie Prime cares for numerous pets and is used to living in close proximity to wildlife in rural Trail, BC. Little did she know that in August 2012, these two worlds would collide and one of her beloved dogs, twelve-year-old Border Collie/Lab cross, Vicious, would live up to her bold name and fearlessly come to Angie's rescue.
Teak, an eight-year-old German Shepherd Dog, is a beloved and decorated member of the Vancouver Police Department. During one particular incident, his courage and unyielding dedication to the job proved to be essential to the capture of a dangerous suspect, the protection of his partner Constable Derrick Gibson and the community.
It's one of the longest-running and most beloved animal-recognition programs in Canada. Purina has been proud to honour pet heroes for over four decades. To read their inspiring stories or watch their videos, please select a year:
