  • Milk is a food, and not a substitute for water. On its own, milk does not provide a balanced diet for dogs.
  • Consuming raw eggs in a dog’s diet can cause a deficiency of the vitamin biotin. Symptoms of biotin deficiency include inflammation of the skin, loss of hair, and stunted growth.
  • Raw fish can cause a deficiency of the vitamin thiamine. Symptoms of thiamine deficiency include loss of appetite, abnormal posture, weakness, seizures—even death.
  • Table scraps will not provide the balanced diet that dogs require, and are not an appropriate treat.
  • Raw meats may contain parasites—and cooked meats can be too high in fat for your dog.
  • Raw liver can cause a vitamin A toxicity in dogs. This is particularly true if consumed by a dog already on a complete and balanced diet containing ample vitamin A.
  • Bones should never be given to dogs, as they may splinter and lodge in his mouth, throat or digestive tract.
  • Supplements are not necessary when a normal, healthy dog is being fed a complete and balanced diet.
