Cats & Diabetes

As with humans, diabetes occurs in cats who cannot properly regulate their blood sugar. Symptoms may include excessive thirst and urination, or radical shifts in weight. Older cats are more prone to diabetes than their young peers.

If your cat presents any indication of diabetes, consult your veterinarian. She can perform a simple blood or urine test to confirm the presence of the disease. Usually, feline diabetes can be controlled with insulin or other medications.
