Transitioning from Kitten to Adult Food

Your kitten’s first birthday marks the official start of her adulthood. From that point on, the high-calorie diet she needed during her first year will gradually decline and you’ll eventually need to switch her over to adult food. Products like Purina® Cat Chow®, Purina ONE® smart blend, and Purina® Pro Plan® all offer complete, balanced nutrition for grown cats.

Talk to your veterinarian about selecting an adult cat food that meets your pet’s nutritional needs. Once you’ve picked one, gradually integrate it into your kitten’s diet by mixing equal portions of it and her old food into her bowl. Then, increase the amount of the new food while decreasing the amount of the kitten food. A gradual transition is especially important when switching from canned to dry cat food.
