Puppy breath imparts joy in many, but when it moves to plain bad breath, it’s less acceptable. The culprit is the same in dogs or humans – plaque. Puppies can’t brush their own teeth, and daily cleaning is essential. Dog toothbrushes and toothpaste flavoured in chicken, peanut butter and other pleasant varieties are available. Your dog may try to lick it off the brush, so don’t be timid about approaching this activity. Introduce teeth brushing as a regular part of the grooming regimen early on to keep your puppy’s teeth free of layers of odour-causing plaque.
Look at what’s in the puppy treats and toys. Offer nylon bones with dental bumps. Crunchy kibble helps keep teeth clean, too.
