Building Resilience for a Sustainable Future

Our commitment to pets goes beyond quality food – it extends to the ingredients that go into that food. By investing in regenerative farming, we’re not just strengthening our supply chain, we’re helping care for the planet you and your pet call home. Our goal: a resilient system that supports both pets and planet.

Supporting Farmers. And Our Future.

Why Invest in Regenerative Practices?

Our commitment to regenerative agriculture and a resilient food system begins on farms in regions where some of our key ingredients, like rice, are grown. These practices help restore ecosystems that support the crops grown by improving soil health, biodiversity, and water retention while helping reduce carbon emissions.

Regenerative practices also strengthen a farm’s ability to withstand climate and environmental challenges – helping ensure a long-term supply of quality, nutritious ingredients for pets everywhere.

Regenerative Practices

Soil Health

Soil Health

Enhances soil fertility and structure, which can help with water retention

Biodiversity

Biodiversity

Promotes diverse ecosystems to sustain plant and animal life

Climate Resilience

Climate Resilience

Builds healthier soils with more organic matter which helps store more carbon to help with climate stability.

Progress Through Partnership

Purina is helping scale regenerative practices across our supply chain by supporting programs that work directly with farmers in regions where our ingredients are grown. These programs help support farmers with tools and expertise to adopt sustainable practices that work in harmony with nature while also working within the context of their farms.

For example, our rice program focuses on reducing emissions and conserving water, while in Wisconsin we support Producer-led Watershed Groups in accelerating the shift to regenerative agriculture. Championing regenerative farming means investing not just in our ingredients, but in a sustainable future for pets, farmers, and the planet.

Here are some examples of regenerative practices Purina is supporting, as well as their benefits.

Cover Cropping

Cover Cropping

Planting crops like clover or rye between main crops prevents erosion, enriches soil, improves water retention, and reduces nutrient runoff.

Mulching & Crop Residue Cover

Mulching & Crop Residue Cover

Helps prevent weeds, conserve moisture, stabilize soil temperature, reduce erosion, and boost organic matter for better carbon storage and water retention.

Crop Rotation

Crop Rotation

Helps reduce pests and disease, improve soil fertility, and enhance biodiversity.

Reduced Tillage

Reduced Tillage

Minimizing soil disturbance preserves structure, cuts erosion, and improves water retention.

Alternating wetting and drying conserves water, improves soil health, increases yields, and limits pests and disease.
