KANAKA, a black German Shepherd was responsible for numerous rescues, arrests and the recovery of evidence, stolen property and money throughout years of distinguished service. In one incident, Kanaka tracked a lost hunter for 20 hours across freezing swamps and an ice-covered lake, before finding the man. After the ordeal, Kanaka required medical attention and was commended with saving the hunter’s life.

As Canada’s longest-standing pet recognition program, it has honoured hundreds of animals for their acts of courage, loyalty, and heroism.
These pets have gone above and beyond, saving lives, offering comfort, and showing unwavering devotion in times of need. Their stories are a powerful reminder of the strength and compassion animals bring into our lives. Each inductee has made a meaningful difference, becoming a symbol of hope and resilience.
