Scooter - 1999 Inductee

BELMONT, NOVA SCOTIA

SCOOTER, a two-year-old German Shepherd mix saved his owner, Fred Priest, after he plunged into the icy water of a river near the family farm. Fred was familiarizing the family’s new pet with their property when he fell through the ice up to his shoulders. Scooter dug her claws into the ice and held firm as Fred used the dog’s leash to drag himself out of the water and make his way safely ashore.


The Purina Animal Hall of Fame is the longest-running Canadian pet recognition program of its kind. To date, hundreds of amazing animals with outstanding acts of courage and heroism have been inducted and honoured by Purina.

These animals have demonstrated unmatched courage and loyalty, leaving a legacy that highlights the incredible bond between humans and animals, inspiring us all to strive for greatness.
