Developed in the British Isles in the 17th century, the Wire Fox Terrier was used to chase small game from their dens. Small and sturdy with a playful, friendly nature, the breed makes a wonderful companion. Bold, driven and determined, the Wire Fox is highly trainable and excels as a watch dog. His short coat sheds little and is easy to maintain.
Smooth and Wire Fox Terriers were considered the same breed for many years, with interbreeding ceasing in the early 1900s.
